Credit card debt in Ireland..am i in big trouble?

hi, i studied in Ireland and came back a year ago to my country.. unfortunately i left my credit card debt about 500euros and right now i'm unable settle my debt since the currency in my country is small..will they be able to sue me in my country?they do have my address and i have received 3 letters from the bank stating they will take legal action against me..am i in big trouble?
well..from what i heard, depends on the amount a person owe the bank. my country is thousands of miles away.it would cost them more than the money i owe just to hire an attorney.at least thats what i heard from other people who had the same problem in the US.since in my case its in Ireland, i just want to confirm..

What country do you live in now?

They can sue you, but they need to do it in an Irish court. Then they need to figure how how to transfer their foreign judgment here for enforcement (very difficult). They they have to collect (even more difficult).

Of course they are going to threaten you with legal action! That is their job to make threats they can't uphold.

They will not come after you for a debt that small. Relax.

CREDIT CARDS - OR ' DEBT CARDS '.

I incurred a credit card debt in England 3 years ago. I now live in Ireland what is my position re:collection?

Is there a statute of limitation on such debt incurred outside Ireland

The Statute of Limitations for credit debts in English law is 6 years. If a creditor got a County Court Judgment against you, limitations would not apply in any case. If the creditor obtains a CCJ they can a) wait and see if you return to England and enforce it there, or b) enforce it through the Irish courts using whatever enforcement powers Irish law provides. Ireland and the UK have reciprocal agreements whcih mean that any judgment made in one country is recognised as valid in the other and can be enforced there. You would need to take advice about what powers Irish courts provide - if there is an Irish equivalent of the Citizens Advice Bureau this would be your best bet. How likely is it that a creditor would go to the trouble of enforcing in another country? Difficult to say, but it is possible. A CCJ is likely, and if you returned to the UK you would likely face enforcement (if you apply for credit it will show that you are back in the country).

is my english credit card debt enforcable as i now reside in ireland.credit was increased without consent?

Sure it is. Moving to a different country does not mean that you don't have to pay back money hat you borrowed.

I'm not sure what you mean by credit increased without consent. Generally, they don't ask you if it's ok to raise your credit. They are simply saying that they will lend you more money. Why would they need consent for that?

what happens if you have credit card debt from a uk bank and you live in ireland and cant pay it.no assets.?

How does a bankruptcy in Ireland affect debts created in the United States?

Some types of debts are not dischargeable in the US such as student loan debts. Some are easily discharged such as credit card debt. How does a bankruptcy in the Rep of Ireland affect foreign debts?

NO EFFECT AT ALL BOTH DIFFERENT COUNTRIES WITH NO CONNECTIONS IN THIS TYPE OF THING AT ALL

NO COUNTRY CAN IMPOSE ANY LAW IN ANOTHER COUNTRY
IF YOU BANKRUPT IN ONE COUNTRY YOU WILL STILL OWE MONEY IN THE OTHER
