I am not the one that owes them money, but is it typical for credit card debt collectors to give u attitude?

even though i tell them that the person they are looking for is not here, they give me shi**t about it and have given me attitude and even when i tried negotiating it with them they scoffed and tried mocking me and hung up. that shi**t completely ruined my day. it was a major mood killer and i am really mad. I'm not even the one they are supposed to be speaking to.

Is it cause of me or is this very typical behavior for credit card debt collectors? They know I'm not the one that owes them!

yes they're paid to be like that unfortunately

Credit Card and Debt Collectors?

There debt collectors who have been trying to collect credit card debt from me that is over ten years old. I write letters to these companies and tell them that the statute of limitations has expired with this debt.

However, a few months later, I get another letter from a "different" debt collection agency with the same debt from the previous company. Is that what these people do...this old debt will continue to be changed from one hand to another even though the debt is very old? And, I'm assuming that this debt will continue to stay on my credit report?

Thanks for any input.

Please don't listen to any advice that tell you that you need to pay this debt because you owe it. You don't!

After 7 years for most debt (some debt doesn't qualify -- check the federal law for verification), creditors are no longer legally allowed to pursuit you for this stale debt. As long as law says that the debt in question is stale, you do not have to pay it. Beware, however, if you state that you will pay the debt, even if the statute of limitations has run, you start the clock all over again and the collectors can come a-calling!

To answer your specific question, yes, the collection agencies will still continue to sell your debt as a part of a greater portfolio of debt, even if they know it's stale. Keep your proof of the debt's age on hand and have that form letter ready to go so you can mail it off every time a new collection agency comes knocking.

Also, after 7 years, old debt is supposed to fall off your credit report whether you pay it or not. However, you will have to push the credit bureaus to remove the erroneous information. Contact each bureau via letter and request the removal of the information and check it periodically to see if they actually removed it.

Good luck!

What does default on credit card debt mean? do i still get charged intrest & extras in default of payments?

Sometimes i get letters from credit card debt angencies saying i owe the same balance that i had for 6 years, but sometimes shows more balance with intrestest but only one letter said this, the rest all had same balances which were 6 years ago when i was in debt of £2,000, but one letter said £6,000, i have not replied or ever gotten back to the debt credit card collectors, agencies etc, so whats going on, does default mean no intrest charges?

Like I've already told you, you just wait until they finally catch up with you and you're in for the surprise of your life! "Interest" won't come into it ! ! !

statute of limitations for credit card debt collectors?

got call from an investagive agency saying they can charge me with fraud from a credit card owed from 1994

This is one of those cases where your location does not matter. They can not do anything to you. They bought the debt for about a penny on the dollar so anything they can convince ignorant people to pay is pure profit. You should tell them to not call you anymore. Discard any mail from them, or return it unopened. If you make any payments on the debt you are reaffirming it and the statute of limitations will begin all over again. Do not pay. They have NO recourse.

Edit. They can't sue you for the debt nor press criminal charges.

Credit Card Debt Collectors time limit? Regulations, the Law?

When I was 18 I applied for a credit card and ran up a bill of around £200. Over the next two years this balance went up and down by around £50 - £100 depending on my payment and interest charges. I then moved to university and stopped making repayments. This debt was chased for a little while but since i was no longer living in my family home I never got the letters. Then contact stopped altogether. My question is ... is there a time period (and if so how long?) before the debt is invalid. I've heard nothing for about 4 years and out of the blue received a summons from a new collections company. Where do I stand legally?

Please help asap

in the UK it should be 6 years but I heard there is a law that if the debt is sold on to a collection agency then it starts off from zero and it goes on for another 6 years.
I am not sure if this was an american law as I read about it on the net.
tons here on the topic

In today’s economic conditions, more and more people are swimming in debt.  At last check the average American household is carrying over $8,000 in credit card debt.  You may be one of those people carrying the debt however you are still entitled to some dignity in how you repay your debts.  In other words you have rights and you cannot and should not be pressured into the manner in which you repay your debts.  The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act(FDCPA) is what gives you these rights.  If you are in debt and are being called by creditors then keep reading to make sure your rights are not being violated.
