I need serious help! I am thinking about going to a credit repairing agency. My credit is terrible. And I really want to fix it. I don't have any credit card debt but almost everything else is on there. I want to set up payment plans and consolidate. How can I get the lowest monthly payments from the companies? Also, the debt I already paid is still showing up as my negative items on my report. How can I get the companies to put the items positive? Also, It's an unlawful detainer on my credit from an apartment. But I was never served any court papers and I moved out wayyy before. (thats another story!) It's saying I owe them $2,000. My question is, if I pay them the money just to get it over with, Can I get the unlawful detainer removed from my credit? So do I need to go with a credit repairing agency(if so, which one) or is it possible for me to fix my credit myself? Thanks for the help, it's well appreciated!
How Can I fix terrible credit without going through a credit repair agency?
Repairing ones credit on their own can be a daunting task, but it can be done. Not all entries on your credit report can be removed due to the regulations under the FCRA Running of Reporting Period - Section 605 [15 U.S.C. § 1681c]. You may even have some debts that will drop off your report once they reach the reporting limitations. You can find these at the source I have provided.
Most credit repair agencies (CCCS) and others charge you a monthly fee and make the payments for you, but many times a creditor will not accept their plan or offer for settlement.
Credit consolidation is just adding more debt to what you already have (it's simply borrowing money to pay borrowed money), nothing but a vicious circle.
HOWEVER, there is hope. The FTC provides many free resources and ideas on how you can repair your credit on your own. Here is a link to their web site:
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/menus/consumer/cr edit/reports.shtm
I urge you to check them out and read about it, the more you know, the better off you are.
the last time i made payments on those cards was 9 years ago. i was getting a lot of phonecalls from collection agencies but i was ignoring them. those were my first credit cards. i was young and foolish..i maxed them out and i couldnt afford to pay them. after several years i applied for a lot of credit cards to rebuild my credit.some approved me and some didnt. i thought my credits been in goodstanding.. i paid my bills on time.. thrice the minimum.. my total limits on all cards is $11k and i only owe $400. i have the cards for two years now. when i checked my credit score it was 716 transunion but the old debts from year 2000 was still there and still in active status keeping me from getting good credit cards. how can i have them removed without hiring scammers for credit repair.
If you have debt that you believe is being reported past the 7 year allowable time frame:
For each item in dispute, send the credit bureaus (Equifax, TransUnion and Experian) a letter via Certified Mail + Return Receipt stating:
Per the Fair Credit Reporting Act, I am requesting validation that this alleged debt is being reporting within the 7-year time frame as allowed under the Fair Credit Reporting Act and validation of the original Date of First Delinquency
---------------------------------------------------------------
DO NOT dispute all items at the same time
- Collection agencies have been known to tamper with the dates on your credit reports to keep them active and to reset the statute of limitations.
What is the best way to pay off a $7,000 debt on my Line of Credit? I used it to pay off my Credit Card bills on the most unexpected repairs and other unexpected expenses. My interest charge is 5.75% and I find it hard to pay that off. Is there another way to pay this off with lower interest payments without owning any house or properties?
Thanks Patricia, I'll be looking into those ideas.
Hey Tim-
Congrats on making a smart decision to pay off your $7,000 debt on your line of credit. Although the 5.75% is lower, likely lower than you previously paid, you probably want to get rid of the debt as soon as possible. the good news is that there are many ways that you can pay off the line of credit debt.
Here are some of the most common:
1. Ask for a raise. You could ask for a raise from your boss and then apply all of the funds to paying down the debt.
2. Get a new job that pays more. Find a new job and then apply the bonus and additional payment to paying down your line of credit debt.
3. Start a home based business. You could start a home based business and apply all of those funds to paying down your debt. Some great businesses to star would be selling items on eBay, internet marketing, etc. One site that lists all kind of ideas is the Chicago Work at Home Examiner site.
3. Get a government grant. You could also seek small government grant specifically for debt reduction. Note that these are difficult to obtain and there are a lot of scam artists out there so be careful. One great site to check out is http://debtreliefgranthelp.blogspot.com/ as they lists a ton of information about debt reduction.
4. Cut expenses. Get on a budget and cut expenses. Then, you will apply all saed money to paying off that line of credit.
Either way, if you are committed and serious about getting out of debt and work hard, you can most certainly do it. Good luck.
My Husband and I paid off all of our credit card debt in April. How do we repair our credit WITHOUT getting another credit card? We do own our home, but that is almost paid off (5 more payments) We are 23 and 25 years old and we know that we need good credit right now mine is 532 and his is 419. Any ideas? Please Help
Ouch with the credit scores!!! The best advice I can give you is that it takes a long time for you to get good credit and if you just keep paying your current bills on time and don't incur any more debt, within a year, your score can improve at least 75-100 points.Your score might be higher when the mortgage is paid off. I know it's a long time for an improvement but you have to be patient.Trust me, been there, don't that... I was in the same situation
