does anyone know of a nonprofit agency for credit card debt relief? ?

Is there a government program or a good nonprofit that can assist with credit card settlements, consolidated loans, or other debt relief? I have a judgement against me from Capital One for $4200 and it is now at $5,100 because of the 27% interest rate!!! Can I get a loan at a lower rate and have some company settle with them for the $4200? Any suggestions? I am desperate!

Are credit card companies more willing to work with a Debt Management Plan company or the consumer?

I get the feeling from talking with Take Charge America (a nonprofit debt management/credit counseling company) that my creditors will be more willing to work with them than they are with me. What I am asking from my creditors is realistic (waiving of some fees, lower interest rates, etc.) however they are not willing to cooperate. According to Take Charge America, they will be able to consolidate my payments into one and submit proposals to my credit card companies and lower my rates and get me out of debt in just over three years. Is this the case? Are credit card companies more willing to work with a Debt Management Plan program than they are with me? if so, why is that the case?

no dont do credit counseling. The problem with credit counseling is that it’ll take you 5 to 7 years to complete since it can only reduce a minor portion of your interest rates. According to Consumer Reports, the credit counseling dropout rate is 79%! Unfortunately, many of these people end up doing bankruptcy. The dropout rate is so high because credit counseling gives people monthly payments as the same minimums they were struggling with and since it only reduces interest, it barely reduces your debt. Another problem with credit counseling os that it appears negatively on your credit report telling other creditors you were unfit to mage your debt and had to hire a credit counselor.

i personally used debt settlement they lower your monthly payments and cut your debt by about 60%. they work on lowering your principal balance. best choise so far.. here is the company i used.

Don't freak out. Credit can always be repaired. 12 grand is not an excessive amount. It may take 2 or 3 years, but you'll get there if you stick to a plan. Your credit will skyrocket after that.

There are many options you can do at this point. Do you work 40 hours a week at a current job? If not, tell them you need 40 hours a week, at least, or you need to move on. After you get one job at 40 hours, go find a second job at 20 hours a week. I know it sucks, but so does being swamped in debt. If you get depressed about that just think about the light at the end of the tunnel.

Make a plan. Eat Wal-Mart spaghetti-O's for a year. Don't go out to eat. Cancel your cable. Get a bike. Cut down on joyriding. Don't rent movies. BUDGET! Stick to your new budget, but be realistic. Saying you will spend 20 dollars a week on food isn't realistic. Budget 6 dollars a day in food, at least. Don't be discouraged if one day you get off track. It happens to even the most frugal people.

Pay your bills off smallest to largest. Call your creditors, and tell them of your situation. If you don't pay on your bills they are forced to sell your debt for pennies on the dollar. Once they realize you truly can't pay they will work with you! I guarantee it. Don't avoid their calls. They want to work with you. If they threaten you, just tell them when they are ready to negotiate they know how to contact you, and hang up.

Don't give up. It truly isn't a lot of debt. You will have to make a lifestyle change for awhile. Work 60 hours a week, make a budget, negotiate with your creditors, and this will all be over soon.

Safely Emerging from Debt: How to Choose the Best Debt ...

Dealing with debt can cause great stress. Working with a nonprofit debt consolidation company is one way to get debt under control (as many for-profit debt consolidation companies tend to be illegitimate). A debt consolidation company can help consolidate one's debt into more affordable monthly payment plans, which can raise one's overall credit score.

Debt consolidation techniques include credit card transfers, home equity loans and joining a credit union. Choosing a nonprofit debt consolidation company that is willing to work with one as a partner provides one the best possible ways to escape debt once and for all.

Determining the Amount of Debt

The first step in choosing a debt consolidation company is to gather one's credit card statements, past due bills and other correspondence with creditors. Add these debt amounts together to determine the total amount one owes in debt.
