Yes. Your creditors don't care if you live on the moon. They just want your money. You can probably pay most of your debts online and I bet they even accept rupees. If not get a PayPal account.

If the government is in the mood to throw away money, how about if they pay off the american credit card debt ?
Bailout Solution

it would stimulate the economy. the banks would get about 80 billion dollars. americans could use their freed up income to pay for mortgages, gas, etc. And we would be freed from the 20-30% interest that the government allows them to assess us.

The American government has no money for debt repayment. It is corporate america that is the driver.
Additionally, it would not please the wall street greedy. It's all about money. The tax paying public will never benefit from the BAILOUT WHICH WAS A SELLOUT BY CORPORATE AMERICA.

The presidential candidate and his wife Cindy reported piling up debt on a charge card between $10,000 and $15,000. His wife’s solo charge card has between $100,000 and $250,000 in debt to American Express.

Current american credit card debt?

Hey does anyone know how much credit card debt America is in as of 2008?

Also including a credible website would be nice

Thank you all so much! :D

Americans currently owe about $951.7 billion total in debt. While common statistics report that the average American owes $8,000 credit card debt; it isn't entirely accurate. Most Americans actually owe nothing in credit card debt. Only about 1 in 20 households actually carries $8,000 or more in credit card debt. The actual average cc debt per household is under $2,000.

    5) Go beyond the minimum

Pay more than the minimum payment on every bill. Even just adding $10 to your payment -- or rounding payments up to the next $10 or $100 increment -- will knock out debt much faster. Take on extra work, sell possessions you do not need, and apply unexpected money like a raise, bonus or gift to paying off your credit-card bills.

    6) Pay off high rates first

Pay as much as you can toward your highest-rate debt, even if you are only paying minimum payments on your lower-interest debts. When the debt with the highest interest rate is paid off, move to pay as much as you can toward the debt with the next-highest rated. However, always make sure you are current with payments on secured debts (mortgage, car) first.

Hannah’s post yesterday on how to get out of credit-card debt referenced the Federal Reserve’s most recent Survey of Consumer Finances , which is full of fascinating data about which households are the most likely to be in debt.

Overall, 46.1 percent of American households reported holding debt on credit cards. But a look at who is holding that debt yields surprising results.

In the section that breaks down debt by income bracket (Page A40), the report shows a peak of debtors in the 60 to 80th percentile of income (with a median salary of $71,500), with 62.1 percent of households in this bracket carrying a credit-card balance — well above the average. The bracket with the lowest percentage of debtors was the 20th percentile and under (earning a median salary of $12,300 and a debt rate at 25.7 percent). In other words: the very poorest among us.
